The Flood

Today I awoke to a flood at 6:30am. The city was called, 311, and they promptly came and did as little as possible. Then the kind and hard working superintendent came and took over, we worked all day hauling things around, trying to figure out where the water came from and why. This is during an otherwise beautiful day, and people came to check out the shop. Now we have a crew taking apart the walls, as everything that came in contact with water is contaminated, so, my rug, my mattresses, records, stereo, wood pieces,sleeping bag, art... etc.

This is the scene outside my store on holiday Friday, March 29th. The city arrived  to look at things, but not much else.

No, these are not Ossington clubbers, or people making reservations for dinner. They are not here to buy records either. These are the Doozers!

 This impressive looking truck sat outside for a while too. They looked like they could swing into action at any time, but nothing happens. The city must make sure that it is their responsibility before they act, and as of now, we don't know. People are telling me this is happening all over Toronto. Busted ceramic oldie's sewer pipes.

All of my valuable records and other items are fine, and brought upstairs, balancing on 2x4 bridges, then organized into an attractive garage sale style. I do better in the next two days than usual...!?





















The clean up crew arrives, hired privately through the landlord. They had to take apart the walls and sterilize everything. Everything is covered in plastic and huge fans are brought in, along with a massive dehumidifier that has to be on for at least 4 days.








95% of my soundtracks & various comps are destroyed.

The Butler Did It, The Best in Toronto

In 2007 I walked into a new world... I was not ready for the world of catering and what it had in store for me. During those five years I worked with some of the best hardest working and talented people I'll ever meet. There were harrowing times when it seemed like we defied the impossible, to bring our guests their mini-burgers, and we did. Every time. I worked in massive tents, on islands, museums, synagogues, galleries, swamps, forests, zoos... etc. I served Patti Smith a ginger tea, I served Mini-Me an extra slice of cheese cake. The list goes on. I survived storms of insects, tornadoes, floods, bomb threats, and 13 hour shifts picking up napkins and cups. The Butler Did it is one of the hardest working and incredible agencies in the city. Some people argue that it is nothing more than slave labor, but I feel I am forever grateful for the experience, and allowing me a freedom that other jobs could never offer. I am moving on and committed to my new endeavor with LP's record store, but it is not the last I will see of TBDI, They got me on stand by! Meanwhile they remain 100% supportive of my own pursuits! Thankyou James, Michael, John, and so many others for all the memories and fun.

The new Ceramic Hello reissue from Suction records is available here, as well as brand new German imports of Bizzare Unit, Mark Lane, Lucas Trouble, the Tara Cross box set, & the new 8LP box set from Conrad Schnitzler. These titles are not yet available anywhere else in Toronto. I also carry new graphic novels from Conundrum Press.
